Piotr Marek Jaworski

Senior Lecturer in International Economics, University of Dundee

iotr joined the Dundee University Business School Economic Studies discipline in August 2023. Previously he was a Lecturer in Economics at the Edinburgh Napier University for more than 17 years.

Piotr got his PhD degree from the Warsaw School of Economics in 2003. His thesis on economics of pension systems was awarded with first prize for the best Economics Polish thesis by the French BISE bank in 2004. His PhD research was also applied in the reform of the Polish Pension system.

Piotr’s predoctoral education included Warsaw School of Economics MA in Policy of International Trade, London School of Economics MSC in Political Economy of Transition and MBA from University of Minnesota.

Piotr’s academic career started in 1994 at the Warsaw School of Economics, where he taught Economics at different levels as assistant professor. In Poland, on top of his academic experience Piotr’s professional career included eight-year work for Polish Civil Service: as Certified Civil Servant, member of Polish Civil Service Corps. He took part in the in negotiations on Polish accession to the European Union in commercial insurance in the capacity of Advisor to the Minister of Finance.

After acquiring his PhD, he moved to the UK and did his postdoctoral fellowship at the University College London, where he worked as a College Teacher in Economics for another year. This was followed by a post of a Seminar Teacher in Economics at the Birkbeck College for another year at the end of which he moved to Scotland.

At the Edinburgh Napier University Piotr taught at all levels on campus as well as within the University’s TNE provisions in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sri Lanka. He also supervised PhD and DBA students what resulted in 3 PhD’s and 2 DBA’s aarded. On top of this he also served as Programme Leader of MSC International Business Management (Singapore), BA Economics with Management, MSC Investment Promotion and Economic Development and Academic Lead for Visiting Student Programmes. He was a member of Institutional Mobility Forum, Academic Board and Risk, Resilience Audit Monitoring Committee. In 2014 his activity was externally recognised by Pangea International awarding him Outstanding Polish in Scotland (Science) Award.

Piotr is a Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy and Certified Management & Business Educator of the Chartered Association of the Business Schools.
