PhD Candidiate (Cognitive Neuroscience), Department of Psychology, University of Canberra

Pratik Raul is a PhD Candidate at the University of Canberra completing his thesis on the stochastic resonance (SR) phenomenon.

SR is a phenomenon in which optimal amounts of noise can enhance the detection of a weak stimulus. Pratik Raul is researching how noise in the autistic brain (neural noise) can lead to enhanced performance in some cognitive tasks. He is also studying how visual noise can artificially be used to enhance vision in people with age-related macular degeneration or AMD which is the leading cause of blindness in older populations across many nations such as Australia and the USA. His AMD project with SR is also currently undergoing a patent process which further showcases the novelty of the project.

Pratik Raul was also inducted into the Golden Key International Honour Society which is an organisation that recognises high-achieving academics. He also runs his website https://neuropsyence.net where he and a few other doctorate students write scientific articles to spread scientific knowledge in neuroscience.

SR is a topic that Pratik Raul is very interested in and passionate about and he hopes that he can continuously share his research through the Conversation.
