Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, The University of Melbourne

Dr. Paiva is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Melbourne based at the Royal Women’s Hospital. She is a former National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Early Career Fellow and is currently the recipient of a University of Melbourne Career Interruption Fellowship for 2017. Her primary research interests are in women’s reproductive health disorders including endometriosis and infertility and how improved understanding of the mechanisms involved in the development of these disorders may lead to novel and more effective treatments. She has received approximately 700 K in research/fellowship funding. She is currently researching the function of genes associated with increased endometriosis risk. She has a keen interest in science advocacy particularly promoting science and research awareness in the community. In this regard, she is on the committee of the Australian Society of Medical Research (the peak professional society representing Australian health and medical research) Victorian Branch Committee.
