Rachel Hope Cleves

Professor of History, University of Victoria

I am a Professor of History at the University of Victoria, in British Columbia. I am the author of "Charity and Sylvia: A Same-Sex Marriage in Early America" (Oxford University Press, 2014) and "The Reign of Terror in America: Visions of Violence from Anti-Jacobinism to Antislavery (Cambridge University Press, 2009). I am presently completing a new biography of the writer Norman Douglas, who was infamous for his sexual relationships with children. And I am at work on a new book project titled "Good Food, Bad Sex," about the interconnections between gourmet food and illicit sexuality in the Anglo-American imagination, from the eighteenth century to today.
