Senior Lecturer in History & Theory of Art & Design, Bath Spa University

Rachel Withers is Senior Lecturer in the History of Art and Design at Bath Spa University. She holds degrees in Fine Art and Art History, and since the late 1990s has been a frequent contributor to Artforum International. She has written for the Guardian, the New Statesman, Nu: the Nordic Art Review, and the Nordic daily Aftonbladet, and has contributed to the first Tate Modern Handbook, Phaidon’s Vitamin P and Vitamin 3D survey volumes, and assorted catalogues of the Venice and Sydney bienniales (2002, 2005 and 2011). In 2007 Dumont Verlag published her illustrated monograph on the Swiss artist Roman Signer. She served on the juries of the 2003 Jerwood Sculpture Prize, the 2009-10 Max Mara Art Prize for Women and the 2014 International Awards for Art Criticism, and she is Secretary of the UK branch of AICA (the Association of International Critics of Art).
