Professor Raymond Jansen is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Water and Earth Science at Tshwane University of Technology. He graduated from the Percy FitzPatrick Institute at UCT with a PhD in Zoology in 2000 and has published widely on the natural history of indigenous plants and animals in South Africa.

Prof Jansen has been studying African pangolins since 2009 and in 2011 founded the African Pangolin Working Group NGO. He's directly involved in retrieving pangolins from the illegal trade, followed by their rehabilitation and release. He holds a position on the International Union for the Conservation of Natures pangolin specialist group.
