I gained a PhD from the Department of Marine Science, University of Otago in 2008. Since then I have held postdoctoral fellow positions in marine ecology (focused on Fiordland, Otago and Antarctica), worked as Lead Scientist at a forensic science-based start up, and been a Science Advisor to New Zealand's Antarctic Science Programme. I have held governance roles since 2012, most notably as a Fiordland Marine Guardian. I have chaired this governmental advisory board for the past 8 years.
