Senior Lecturer in Criminology, Northumbria University, Newcastle

Rob joined the Department of Social Sciences in January 2008. He studied Sociology & Social Policy at the University of Durham, then completed an MA in Criminal Justice Studies and a PhD which was an ethnographic study of young offenders and the youth justice system in a northern city. Prior to joining Northumbria, Rob worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Universities of Huddersfield, Durham, Sunderland, Newcastle, York and the London School of Economics.

Rob’s research interests are in the areas of organised crime and gun crime. Rob’s most recent research, funded by the Medical Research Council’s NPRI programme involved HMRC case files analysis of successfully prosecuted organised criminals involved with upper-level cigarette smuggling, the interviewing of law enforcement officers involved in those investigations and interviewing criminals currently involved with cigarette smuggling into the UK.
