Rosina Cianelli

Rosina Cianelli is a professor at the University of Miami, School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS). She received her BA in nursing and midwifery at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC), her MPH at the Universidad de Chile, and her Ph.D. in nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Cianelli has worked at UM-SONHS since 2007. Cianelli has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and as an Ambassador of the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research. She also was awarded a fellowship from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Executive Nurse Fellow Program, and is an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Cianelli's scholarly work reflects a commitment to decreasing health disparities among vulnerable populations. Her primary research focuses on HIV prevention among Hispanic and Black women, a health disparities population at significantly increased risk for HIV infection. Cianelli integrates pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) within the HIV prevention intervention.

A strength of her approach is that it recognizes the centrality and intersection of age-related and cultural-behavioral risk factors, as well as socio-economic and systemic considerations, that impact this population's vulnerability to HIV infection. Cianelli works with adults and older women, as well as women living with HIV.

Cianelli's teaching and related mentoring activities fully reflect her dedication to educating nurse clinicians and nurse researchers, ensuring they have a strong, comprehensive foundation in the field while being prepared to meet today's pressing nursing demands. She uses her knowledge and experience as a minority faculty member in her work with underrepresented minority students and early career faculty.
