Systems Lead - Sustainable Economies, Climateworks Centre

Rupert leads the sustainable economies team at Climateworks Centre, supporting the development of net zero strategies and aligned policy. This team encourages green economic diversification, with consideration of economic and development co-benefits that the shift towards sustainable economies can deliver.

Rupert has been working in the climate change and environmental field since the 1990s. He was a member of the Olympic Environment Committee for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, advising organisers on how to meet the Games’ environmental guidelines. He founded the Australian arm of The Climate Group in 2005 and worked with state governments, industry and other organisations in advancing action on climate change. He then went to New York to run Climate Week NYC and The Climate Group’s global energy program. When he returned to Australia he ran Australia’s ecolabel, Good Environmental Choice Australia, and was a member of Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council.

Rupert has also worked for state governments in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia, and as a policy advisor in Canberra. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Journalism from Murdoch University.
