Research fellow, University of St Andrews

I am a research fellow at the University of St Andrews Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU). I completed my undergraduate degree in fisheries and hydrobiology in my native Finland (University of Jyvaskylä), masters in Marine Mammal Science in 2008, and PhD on the behavioural ecology of sperm whales in 2014.

My research in animal ecology aims to understand what drives individual flexibility and resilience to cope with environmental stressors and change. Within this, I am interested in how individuals manage uncertainty, risks and resources in foraging and predator-prey contexts.
