Postdoctoral Fellow, Trans+ People in Forced Labour Project, University of Victoria

I am a researcher of queer resistance in music cultures, especially drag. As part of my PhD research, I performed as a drag queen, with a queer punk performance art group, organizing queer raves, and participated in marches, rallies, parades, and festivals. Currently, I am working as a post-doctoral fellow with the Trans+ People in Forced Labour in Canada project, researching trans+ people who are victims of human trafficking, forced labour and related forms of labour exploitation. This project dovetails with my research on drag, in which I consider the historical precedents for legislating crossdressing in public spaces and also the presence of precarity and informality in art community based gig work.
