Sally SJ Brown

Sally SJ Brown works in the Centre for Health Promotion Research in the School of Health at Leeds Beckett University and she focuses on inclusion and equality for marginalised groups in areas including health, wellbeing and leisure. Her research interests include the sociology of health, social and digital inclusion/exclusion, health inequality and the intersection of sport/movement activity and spirituality. Her doctoral thesis explores access and inclusion in yoga for people with marginalised identities using a critical theory approach. Other research work covers digital exclusion for citizens and services for learning disabled and autistic adults. Sally worked for over 20 years in health promotion communications, NHS digital service design, and journalism. She is a practising registered yoga teacher (200-hour RYT). She identifies as neurodivergent and received a later-life autism diagnosis. She divides her time between the north Northumberland coast and the city of Leeds.
