Dr Saltanat Janenova joined the International Development Department as a Teaching Fellow in Public Policy and Management in January 2020. Saltanat received a PhD degree in Social Policy from the University of Edinburgh and MA degree in Sociology from the University of Durham. She has worked at the Graduate School of Public Policy, Nazarbayev University (Kazakhstan), as the Assistant Professor.
Dr.Janenova's research interests are concerned with public sector reforms in Central Asia, including authoritarianism, patronage, corruption, open government, and public service innovations. Saltanat has published in reputable peer-reviewed journals (Review of Public Personnel Administration; International Review of Administrative Sciences; Public Administration and Development; International Journal of Public Sector Management; International Review of Public Policy; Central Asian Survey). Her co-authored Palgrave pivot book 'A Primer on Policy Communication in Kazakhstan' has been published in 2020.
Saltanat has extensive experience of working as a national consultant on public administration reform for the OECD, UNDP, and EU.
