Sara Vannini is a Lecturer at the University of Sheffield Information School with specialization on how information systems can promote or hinder social change, particularly for the most underserved social groups. She has been conducting extensive work on the intersections of information justice, social movements, and migration, in particular in the United States and Italy. She is co-author of the book “Fotohistorias: Participatory Photography and the Experience of Migration” (2015), and of numerous journal publications, including “Mind the five: Guidelines for data privacy and security in humanitarian work with undocumented migrants and other vulnerable populations" (2019) and "The information practices and politics of migrant-aid work in the US-Mexico borderlands" (2020). She is regularly presenting her work at international conferences and seminars internationally, including recently in Italy, England, Germany, South Africa, and the United States.
