Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Criminology, Staffordshire University

I have worked at Staffordshire University as a Senior Lecturer since 2006 in the Sociology team teaching Sociology, Criminology and also Mentoring. I was seconnded to the Creative Communities Unit for a brief period to focus on teaching Mentoring and Community Leadership to MA students and delivering consultancy to external organisations.

I tend to do research projects in partnership with relevant external stakeholders. For example, I worked on a project with Stoke-on-Trent Public Health on tackling domestic violence (file:///C:/Users/sjd1/Downloads/S-Page-and-E-Temple-Malt-CHAD-Symposium%20(2).pdf) and am presently working with the Stoke-on-Trent Breastfeeding Steering Group and Public Health on an attitudes towards breastfeeding project that is funded by CHAD.

Presently I lead the following modules:-
Trafficking of Illegal Services, People and Goods (PG)
Happy Families (UG)
Sociology of Health (UG)
Sociology of Education (UG)
Working with Drug Users (UG)
Mentoring: Theory & Practice (UG & PG)
Problems and Policy (UG)

Prior to working at the University I was a senior manager within a Health Action Zone tackling poverty through innovation and partnership working. I have been involved in reducing health and social inequalities through City wide strategic partnerships.

I am just begining a PHD at Staffordshire University. I am looking at developing research capability in undergraduate students through collaborative research projects between academic staff and students on a range of projects that tackle health and social inequalities. My MSc is from Sheffield Hallam in 2006 and I became an HEA fellow in 2014 after completing with distinction the PG Cert Higher Professional Education at Staffordshire University.
