Scott McKinnon is a Research Associate in the Australian Centre for Culture, Environment, Society and Space (ACCESS), University of Wollongong.
He is a historian and geographer with a particular interest in geographies of memory and the ways in which the past is constructed and enacted in the present. He has pursued these core research interests across a range of subjects, including disasters research, cinema studies and historical geographies of sexuality and gender.
Scott is the author of Gay Men at the Movies: Cinema, Memory and the History of a Gay Male Community (Intellect Books, 2016) and the co-editor (with Dr Margaret Cook) of Disasters in Australia and New Zealand: Historical Approaches to Understanding Catastrophe (Palgrave MacMillan, 2020).
He is Vice President of Sydney's Pride History Group and of Oral History NSW.
