Senior Distinguished Artist in Residence, Emerson College

Scott Wheeler is best known as a composer of opera and art song, but he is also active in chamber and orchestral music, and as the composer of musical portraits. His music has been performed by violinist Gil Shaham, conductor Kent Nagano, and singers Renee Fleming, Sanford Sylvan, and Susanna Phillips, as well as conductor Gil Rose and pianist Donald Berman. He is currently composer in residence with Concerts on the Slope in Brooklyn.

Mr. Wheeler has appeared as conductor in New York, Berlin, Boston, and on several recordings. He has also conducted many productions of opera and musical theatre works and has appeared as a pianist in a wide repertoire of classical, jazz, and cabaret. His many awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, MacDowell and Yaddo. He is Senior Distinguished Artist in Residence at Emerson College in Boston, where he teaches musical theatre and songwriting.
