Shaily Shashikant Patel

Assistant Professor of Early Christianity, Virginia Tech

I am an expert in ancient magic, Graeco-Roman religions, and early Christianity. I hold a PhD in Religious Studies with a specialization in Ancient Mediterranean Religions. I also hold two masters-level degrees with specialization in early Christianity and biblical studies. I currently serve as Assistant Professor of Early Christianity at Virginia Tech, where I teach courses on the New Testament and other Christian literature, orthodoxy and heresy, and demonology. My research is about how discourses of magic are used to create Christian identity in early Christian texts.
