Lecturer in International Development, Global Development Institute, University of Manchester

I am a lecturer in international development in the Global Development Institute at The University of Manchester. I am interested in issues around international political economy, international trade policy, global value chains, digital trade, and labour, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa region. I have previously worked at the Department of Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath (2016-2018) and the Department of International Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) (2014-2016). I am a visiting fellow at the Middle East Centre at LSE where I lead a project on global value chains linking the North Africa region with the EU.

I have a bachelor degree in economics from the University of Damascus, a masters degree in globalisation and development from the University of Manchester, and a PhD in international development from the University of Manchester. I have advised a number of international organisations such as UNIDO, UNECA, the OECD, and contributed to policy debates at the WTO.
