Shobhakar Dhakal

Shobhakar Dhakal is a Professor of Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Change at the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. His areas of interests are: energy and carbon policies, energy access, cross-border power trade, cities and climate change, and greenhouse has accounting and modelling. Prof Dhakal is one of the Coordinating Lead Authors of the Sixth and Fifth Assessment Reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the Working Group III dealing with Climate Change Mitigation. He also co-led a global assessment titled "Climate Change and Cities" of Urban Climate Change Research Network, published by Cambridge University Press and contributed by over 500 global scientists. He have served as one of the lead authors of the Global Energy Assessment, member of the Consensus Panel on Low Carbon Cities of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa, member of the Cities Energy Modeling Group of the International Energy Agency, among others. He was an Executive Director of the Global Carbon Project’s office in Japan that was hosted by National Institute for Environmental Studies (2006-2012) and a Senior Policy Researcher and Project Manager at Institute for Global Environmental Strategies in Japan (2000-2006) in the past. Prof. Dhakal was also a guest scholar to International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis in Austria and a visiting Professor of Nagoya University Japan in the past. His co-edited book titled "Creating Low Carbon Cities" was released by Springer in March 2017.
