Silvia Ferrari is a wood technologist with a PhD focused on timber drying. After working for the private timber sector and for the National Research Institute in Italy, she moved in 2013 to Democratic Republic of Congo, leading projects concerning rural development and legal logging in Nord-Kivu province. In 2017 she joined CIFOR-ICRAF staff in Kisangani as scientific expert in the context of projects conducted in the Yangambi landscape and since 2022 she coordinates all field activities. In particular she is responsible for activities focused on artisanal timber value chain (legal logging, timber processing, green marketing) and on implementing the community forestry approach. Silvia has a long experience in performing training courses in wood technology and she is also working to improve governance dealing with the transparency of the exports of artisanal timber towards the east border of the country.
