Simmone is currently completing a PhD, in which her research focuses on the role of text types in the reading development of beginning readers. In addition to working as a consultant with MultiLit (a research initiative of Macquarie University) Simmone teaches in the Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary) course in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University, WA.
Simmone has been involved in the revision and development of four published literacy programs, the most recent of which is a whole class beginning reading and spelling program. She has extensive experience working with Pre-primary and Year one teachers to improve the reading outcomes of children, especially those with reading and learning difficulties, in Western Australian classrooms.
