Simone is a Lecturer in Management and International Business at the University of Technology Sydney. She has a PhD in Tourism Management and holds a first class Honours degree in Tourism Management and a BA (International Studies). Her research spans volunteerism, sustainability, consumer behaviour, cross-cultural psychology, community, disability and diversity management.

Simone's current research traverses tourism, volunteering and education. While international volunteering promises to provide a range of benefits to communities and volunteers, there are many negative affects. With this in mind she is critical of tourists volunteering for the sake of status seeking or personal development. She is exploring ways that tourists can be more conscientious in their travel choices and have an educational experience which is run by communities and for communities.
