Sofie has a range of experience working in the construction and built environment industry. She has worked for government, NFP and private commercial clients. Her experience includes the master planning and design of residential, retirement living, retail, mixed-use, education and urban development projects.
Currently undertaking a Ph.D at QUT, her research focuses on the relationship between urban planning and design features of an environment and how they impact on people's positive or negative emotional responses (happiness) and well-being. This is coined 'urban happiness'. Recent research has included a pilot study on the self-reported happiness of people within urban environments. Her current research area focuses on this connection between planning, design and happiness at various scales of urban development, including inner urban, suburban and peri-urban sites (brownfield and Greenfield).
Her passion is shaping cities to increase user happiness, productivity and engagement through quality planning and design outcomes. Whilst also considering factors such as urban growth management, urban strategy and social sustainability. She is particularly involved in promoting the value of research led design and quality urban environments that increase happiness and thus a healthy population.
