Sri Lestari Wahyuningroem

Sri Lestari Wahyuningroem started her PhD with PSC ANU on February 2011 as an awardee of Australian Leadership Award. She has a Bachelor of Political Science from University of Indonesia, and Master of Art in Political Theory from Central European University, Hungary. She has been teaching and doing research in political science at University of Indonesia since 2001 and had been involved in social activism for issues on gender, democracy, human rights and post conflict. For the last nine years, she had been involved in research and consultative works with UN Agencies (UNFPA and UN Women) and International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ). She wrote and edited a book “Perempuan Aceh Bicara Pasca Tsunami dan Konflik (Acehnesse Women Speak after Tsunami and Conflicts) published by UNIFEM (2005) and some other published reports and papers.

Her research is looking at how demands for transitional justice have been accommodated by democratization in Indonesia and investigate the practices and outcomes of transitional justice implementation. It tries to identify what parts of the transitional justice agenda have been addressed, and to link the successes and failures by reference to the broader dynamics of Indonesia's democratic transition, and to study how the transitional justice mechanisms and policies chosen and implemented have — or could have — impacted on democracy in Indonesia.
