Stéphane J. G. Girod

Professor of Strategy & Organizational Design, International Institute for Management Development (IMD)

Stéphane J.G. Girod is Professor of Strategy and Organizational Design at IMD. His research, executive development and consulting interests focus on empowering clients to respond to digital and global disruption. He focuses his executive development on how established incumbents can disrupt disruptors by developing new capabilities around strategic and organizational agility. He also engages business leaders to reflect on how they can place globalization on a more sustainable footing. He is the program director of the IMD strategy program “Reinventing Luxury: Strategic Conversations.”

Professor Girod’s sectoral expertise is in luxury goods and services, retail, retail banking and consumer goods. His research has appeared in leading journals such as Harvard Business Review, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal and Long Range Planning, as well as in China Daily, and the Journal of Business Strategy and European Business Review. He has been interviewed by or his work has appeared in The Economist Intelligence Unit, BBC News, Télévision Suisse Romande, Valor Economico, La Vanguardia, Tribune de Genéve, Luxury Society and HandelZeitung and The Times.

Prior to joining IMD, Professor Girod was an Assistant Professor of Strategy at the Henley Business School where he designed innovative sessions in strategy, competitive-readiness and business model innovation in a wide range of open and custom executive programs in the U.K., Denmark, South Africa, the U.A.E and Hong Kong. He also was a Research Fellow in Strategy and Organization of the Accenture Institute for High Performance, based in London. His projects included international operating model design, luxury goods strategy, and the transformation of enterprise IT. Prior to his doctoral studies, Professor Girod occupied several international development roles for markets such as France, Italy and the Middle-East in leading luxury goods companies.

Professor Girod speaks seven languages. He earned a DPhil from the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, an MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics (Aalto University) and an MSc from Toulouse Business School. He was also a visiting scholar at Indiana University.
