Stephanie Shankland

PhD Candidate, University of East Anglia

Steph’s research focuses on how blended (economic, social and financial) value is expressed through Impact Measurement and Management and how this can lead to a more robust conceptualization of Social Impact Investing. Her PhD explores developing country investor and investee (small and social enterprises) perceptions towards value creation and its measurement, with a case-study focused in Mexico.

The intention is to examine to what extent and in what ways a blend of impact is understood and measured, seeking lessons from development evaluation. The findings intend to contribute to a current movement towards a more comprehensive systemic approach to social impact measurement, more closely integrated with blended finance and the SDGs. This research builds on her previous experience in development impact evaluation and systems effectiveness for MOPAN and DfID and draws on ten years of experience as writer for the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Country Finance and Country Commerce Reports.
