Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Science, UNSW

Dr Stephen Bygrave has worked on climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable transport for the past 20 years, primarily in policy and research positions at a local, national and international level. He has a PhD in Resource and Environmental Management from ANU and Bachelors of Economics and Science.

As well as being an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Science, UNSW Australia, he is the chief executive officer of Beyond Zero Emissions, a not-for-profit research and education organisation known for its work on designing and implementing a zero emissions economy for Australia.

Stephen has worked on and delivered many major initiatives, including designing the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target in the late 1990s and managing Australia’s first major renewable energy and sustainable transport programs. He also worked on international climate change issues at the OECD between 2002-04. Most recently he was involved in the design and implementation of the Clean Energy Future package for the federal government, including as a senior executive setting up the Clean Energy Regulator.
