Stephen Clark is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne and Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiopulmonary Transplantation in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at the University of Northumbria.
He was appointed in December 2000 after training in Newcastle and Toronto in cardiac, thoracic and cardiopulmonary transplant surgery.  He practices widely in all forms of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery including cardiopulmonary transplantation as is a Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers. He is an Assessing Examiner for Intercollegiate Basic Surgical Examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a College Assessor. He is a Specialty Advisor in Cardiac Surgery for NICE, a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee in Cardiothoracic Surgery and is the Specialty Program Director for CORESS.
Professor Clark is Director of Cardiopulmonary Transplantation at Freeman Hospital and a member of the Cardiopulmonary Transplant Advisory Group to NHS Blood and Transplant. He is a Specialist Advisor for the Care Quality Commission and also reports for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman.
