Affiliate Fellow, King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence, King's College London

Dr. Steven Hai is an affiliate fellow at King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence, King’s College London. His research sheds light on the political economy and comparative governance of emerging technology, inclusive innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and sustainable development in China, the Global South, and global techno-developmental economies. His work has appeared in the Journal of Small Business & Entrepreneurship, Global Policy Journal, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, European Cooperation in Science & Technology, and LSE IDEAS.

Steven received research grants and awards from the Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) by the China in Europe Research Network (CHERN) at the European Cooperation in Science & Technology (COST), the Universities’ China Committee in London (UCCL) by the Great Britain China Centre, and teaching development grants from the University of Hong Kong, among others. He was a visiting scholar at the Slovenian Migration Institute (SMI), the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (2022), and the Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER), New York University Shanghai (2021).

Steven obtained his PhD in Political Science from King's College London, and M.A. in International Political Economy from the School of Global Policy & Strategy (GPS), University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Prior to King's, he held academic positions at the University of Hong Kong.
