Steven Smith

I am a Professor of Psychology and the former Dean of Science and former AVP Academic and Enrolment Management at Saint Mary's University. As AVP, I led the Strategic Enrolment Management initiative at the University, supported student success and teaching excellence, as well as the continued expansion of community outreach initiatives, partnerships, and academic support for our students as the transition in, through, and out of University. I maintain an active research lab, where we conduct research on student success, compliance, persuasion, forensic psychology and health promotion, which has been funded through external research grants from SSHRC, Mitacs, NSHRF, CIHR, and many other agencies and organizations. Along with colleagues, we are currently working on empirically validated projects to enhance student success in the first year, with a focus on inclusion and inclusivity. I am also the co-founder of Trees.app, a machine learning based mobile app which delivered personalized action plans to post-secondary students to support their success.
