Professor of History Emeritus, Co-Director, Consortium for Teaching and Learning, Great Lakes Colleges Association, Oberlin College and Conservatory

I have been teaching in higher education since 1973 with most of my career spent at Oberlin College (1986-2016). I founded Oberlin's Center for Teaching Innovation and Excellence and now co-direct the GLCA's Consortium on Teaching and Learning. In 2011, I was named Best Baccalaureate Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. I have published widely in my professional field (Latin American History) and on pedagogy. My most recent publication, co-authored with Beth Benedix, is The Post-Pandemic Liberal Arts College: A Manifesto for Reinvention (Belt, 2020).
