Lecturer and Research Scholar in Composition and Music Technology, Edith Cowan University

I completed a Bachelor Degree with first-class honours in music composition at the University of Western Australia in 2000. This followed a certificate in Jazz piano performance in 1995. I completed my Masters in Creative Arts at Edith Cowan University in 2005, and my doctorate in 2015. Both my Masters and PhD were involved in aspects of Music Technology; the masters investigating Wave Terrain Synthesis, a method of using multi-dimensional data sets for generating sound; the doctorate involved the software development of new algorithms and methods for spatial audio. My professional experience involved setting up a commercial recording studio (The Soundfield Studio) that has been successful for the last decade, and also my academic appointment at Edith Cowan University in 2016. I have been teaching in the areas of spatial audio, analog and digital electronics, internet-based culture and technologies, sound design, interactive technology, and composition. I am also currently supervising a large cohort of postgrads. I also compose for new media, often designing my own digital music instruments (DMIs).
