Professor of Sociology, Suffolk University

I am the author of six books, most recently "Can’t Catch a Break: Gender, Jail, Drugs, and the Limits of Personal Responsibility." In addition to serving as Professor in the Department of Sociology, I am Senior Researcher at Suffolk University‘s Center for Women’s Health and Human Rights. Before coming to Suffolk (in 2004) I developed and directed the "Religion, Health and Healing Initiative" at the Harvard University Center for the Study of World Religions. The first decade of my career I was a faculty member in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Bar-Ilan University, Israel.
