Dr Tarnya Kruger has an interest in rural communities and in particular, volunteering and her research focuses on the way local knowledge is constructed to build collaborative understanding, skills and practices in environmental management. Her PhD research explored how the organisation of volunteer support groups contribute to surge capacity in the ACT, Victoria and South Australia. Tarnya examined the extent to which local knowledge can enhance or jeopardise the work of firefighters.
