Research assistant, Faculty of Education, University of Manitoba

I am a PhD Candidate in Education at the University of Manitoba. My dissertation research is investigating the political and educational history of school in the Western Arctic region of Canada. In particular I am interested in how school functions as an institution of cultural change for Inuit. This involves a study of residential schooling and its devastating effects on traditional cultural practices, especially for my research linguistically, but also includes ways that school is being repositioned as a means of cultural and linguistic revitalization.

I have also worked on research projects regarding faculty workload in U15 universities for my supervisor, Dr. Sandra Kouritzin, and have worked as a research assistant conducting policy analyses which concerned issues of restraint and seclusion in Manitoban and Canadian public schools under Dr. Nadine Bartlett.
