Senior Research Fellow, University of Hohenheim

Dr. Thomas Daum is a senior researcher at the Institute of Agricultural Science in the Tropics (Hans-Ruthenberg-Institute). His work focuses on finding solutions for sustainable agricultural development and food security in Africa and Asia. He has been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Josef G. Knoll - European Science Award 2020 by the foundation fiat panis, the Communication Award 2020 by the German Society of Economic and Social Sciences in Agriculture (GEWISOLA), and the Landmark in the Land of Ideas Award 2018 by the German Federal Government. Dr. Daum studied Business Administration (B.A.) in Mannheim and Budapest and holds a M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Hohenheim. He has been consulting with several international organizations including the CIMMYT, the FAO, and the World Bank. He is working as a freelance journalist for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Süddeutsche Zeitung, among others, and is part of the editorial board of “Welternährung”, a journal of the German “Welthungerhilfe”.
