Professor of Sociology (retired), Lancaster University

Tim Dant is a sociologist who is interested in how the material life of people in modern societies contributes to the changing culture. He has written about the material interaction between people and things like knives, cars, iPods, clothes and televisions and is currently most interested in the impact of materiality on moral life. Material life is becoming increasingly digital and oriented to communication but material interaction continues to be meaningful in itself.
