Professor in Sport, Bournemouth University

I am a Professor in the Faculty of Management. My primary research interests are the social psychology of performance (with a specific focus on social support, attributions, social identity, and stereotype threat), and the development of talent.

I have also examined personal, social and environmental influences on physical activity. Funded from many sources (e.g., Economic and Social Research Council, British Academy, UK Sport, England Rugby, England and Wales Cricket Board, Active Devon), this research has impacted policy within England Rugby, the England and Wales Cricket Board and UK Sport.

I consult in motor racing, equestrianism, ice skating, and high-board diving, and my research has been the feature of programmes on BBC R4’s flagship programme “All in the Mind” (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b011mt0z) and NPR Radio's "Only a Game" with Bill Littlefield (http://onlyagame.wbur.org/2015/06/27/study-darts-exeter-rivalry).
