Timo Duile obtained his PhD at University of Bonn in Southeast Asian Studies. He is a political scientist and anthropologist by training. His dissertation is about identity politics and environmental conflicts in West Kalimantan.

Timo Duile's research focuses on identity politics, democracy, pluralism, environmental conflicts, post-colonial theory and critical theory. He has published a book in German language, "Grüne Differenz: Naturkonzepte, indigene Identität und ökologische Konflikte in Indonesien. Zu einer Postkolonialen Theorie von Natur am Beispiel Kalimantans". He also has published in various journals such as the Austrian Journal for Southeast Asian Studies and Critical Asian Studies.
