Toby has been working as a researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry and as a clinician at the Maudsley Hospital since 2015. As a researcher he works with Professor Oliver Howes examining the mind-body continuum in serious mental illness. His recent studies focussing on cardiometabolic and immune alterations in first-episode psychosis have been published in JAMA Psychiatry, Molecular Psychiatry, and The British Journal of Psychiatry. His work has been featured in both The Guardian and The Independent newspapers. Alongside Professor David Taylor and Fiona Gaughran, Toby is editing 'The Maudsley Prescribing and Practice Guidelines for Physical Health Conditions in Psychiatry' which is due for publication in 2020. He also leads biannual Maudsley Masterclasses for psychiatric practitioners focussing on improving the delivery of physical healthcare to individuals with serious mental illness. Clinically, Toby works at the Maudsley Hospital specialising in the care of patients with treatment resistant schizophrenia.
