Associate Professor, Journalism, Stream Leader, Climate Justice Research Centre, University of Technology Sydney

I'm Associate Professor of Journalism and a Research Stream Leader in the Climate Justice Research Centre at UTS.

My research focuses on climate change, climate communication, renewable energy and the coal-industrial complex.

I'm currently a chief investigator on the ARC Discovery Project Decarbonising Electricity, which looks at the social legitimacy of renewable energy in Australia, India and Germany, see Decarbonising Electricity (decarbenergy.net). This follows on from a previous ARC project on coal and climate change, see Coal Rush (coalrush.net).

As part of that project, I produced a three-part series on coal and climate change for ABC Radio National's Science Show: Beyond the coal rush part 1: The march of coal.

Before joining UTS I was a radio journalist, investigative reporter and radio feature and documentary producer with ABC Radio National for more than 20 years. Some of my productions include Shutting Down Sharleen, with Eurydice Aroney, for RN's Hindsight, which won a 2010 Gold Award at the New York Radio Festival, Krautrock, for RN's The NIght Air, and A German Reunion/Deutschland eine Wiederbegegnung, a co-production between the ABC and the German national broadcaster (Deutschlandradio), which was a finalist in the 2011 Prix Europa.

I have a PhD in German Language and Literature, and am a member of the Garages of Desire.
