Tomás Gómez-Navarro

Tomás Gómez Navarro.
I have a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) since 2004. I have developed my scientific and teaching career at the UPV. First in the Department of Engineering Projects, and since 2015 in the Institute of Energy Engineering (IIE) of the UPV, which I have been directing since 2021. My line of research is the Environmental Assessment of Energy Systems, and lately I have focused on energy systems in the built environment, i.e. cities and towns.
I lead and have led numerous projects with private and public funding, both regional, national and European. These projects relate to reducing the environmental impact of energy systems, be they hybrid renewable energy grids, residential electricity systems or, more recently, the energy supply of entire neighbourhoods in cities. This research has been carried out in collaboration with prestigious research groups from universities such as KTH in Sweden, TH Ohm in Germany, or Parténope in Italy.
As a result of this work, I have authored or co-authored around 40 articles in indexed scientific journals, and 90 papers in international conferences. I am also co-author of more than 20 books or book chapters on energy and sustainability. I am a visiting professor at three European universities: TH Ohm, Parténope and U.T. Lodz. I am also a visiting professor at several Latin American universities. In 2018 I founded and directed the Chair of Urban Energy Transition funded by Valencia City Council. Since 2021, upon accepting the position of director of the IIE, the chair is directed by my colleague Carla Montagud, also from the IIE-UPV.
