Professor of Marketing, Monash University

Professor Tracey Danaher is a distinguished Professor of Marketing at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. She has made substantial contributions to the field of Marketing, particularly in Services Marketing. With over 50 refereed international journal articles, Professor Danaher is recognized as a leading academic in Australia and globally in the area of service science.

Her research interests are diverse and include examining the customer experience and journey, service quality and satisfaction, customer value cocreation, service environments, and the role of frontline service employees. Additionally, she investigates multi-media advertising effectiveness, how firms can embrace a social profit orientation, and consumer well-being. Professor Danaher is particularly interested in healthcare marketing.

Her research is driven by a desire to provide consumers, marketers, firms, and policymakers with the means to make better, more informed decisions for themselves, their organizations, and society.

Professor Danaher has published extensively in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Service Research, International Journal of Forecasting, Journal of Advertising, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Services Marketing, Managing Service Quality, and Journal of Consumer Marketing.

She has also contributed to prominent medical journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Cancer Discovery, and Journal of Oncology Practice.

Tracey has been involved in cross-disciplinary and international research teams, securing over $10 million in competitive research grants, including ARC Linkage, ARC Discovery, and MRFF grants. Professor Danaher is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of researchers, mentoring 14 PhD and honors students.

Previously, she served as the Academic Director of the Australian Centre for Retail Studies at Monash University for three years. She also serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Retailing and the Journal of Service Research.

Professor Danaher has received numerous academic awards, including the AMA-EBSCO Responsible Research in Marketing Award in 2021, which honors outstanding research that produces credible and useful knowledge benefiting society. She was a distinguished winner for the research titled “When Patients and Their Families Feel Like Hostages to Healthcare.”

Other accolades include the ANZMAC Best Paper Award (2003), the Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award in Services Management (2005), the ANZMAC Emerging Researcher of the Year Award (2008), and the Services Science Forum Best Paper Award (2009). Her work with co-authors has also been recognized as a finalist for the Journal of Service Research Best Article Award (2013) and the Journal of Marketing Research Green Award (2016). In 2016, she received the Faculty of Business and Economics Dean’s Award for Research Impact, and in 2017, she was honored with the Dean’s Award for Research Excellence.

Professor Danaher previously taught at the University of Queensland and has been a visiting scholar at Florida State University, Arizona State University, and New York University. She joined Monash University in 2010 and earned her PhD from the University of Western Australia.
