In addition to my teaching position at Leipzig, I am a visiting professor at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) and a professor extraordinary in the Department of Political Science at Stellenbosch University (South Africa). From 2006 to 2019 I was an adviser to the AU Peace and Security Department on early warning, conflict prevention, and preventive diplomacy (funded through GIZ). I am also the editor of the Yearbook on the African Union (published with Brill's since 2021).

My research interests include international and regional organisations, German African policy, and political developments in South and Southern Africa. My most recent research project is the network African non-military conflict intervention practices (ANCIP).
