Senior Lecturer in Cinema and Television Histories, De Montfort University

My research is situated in the field of Feminist Media Studies. More specifically, I focus on women's television and film histories within the British context. At the moment, I'm writing a book, entitled 'Heroine Television', for Manchester University Press on the subject of British female ensemble dramas and sitcoms (1960-2014). The aim of the book is to address some of the gaps in our knowledge regarding television fictions that have been associated wth women in the UK. Research for the book has involved analysing archival materials and the representations of women within the female ensemble texts as well as carrying out interviews with women involved in their production.

I am also a member of the steering group of the Women's Film and Television History Network, which has been set up to promote and support research into women's film and TV making history in Britain and Ireland, from the silent period to the present; and I'm co-investigator on the AHRC funded research project 'Women's Work and Working Women: A Longitudinal Study of Women Working in the British Film and Television Industries (1933-1989)', with Principal Investigator Melanie Bell (Newcastle University).
