Formally trained as a scientist, I am an accomplished educator and communicator of science with deep expertise in scientific publishing and open-access journals. I have served as editor of leading scientific journals, including Cell and PLOS Biology, founded and directed the Center for Science Communication (CSC) at Vanderbilt University, and led communications and education and outreach initiatives at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

In addition to being a Lecturer at MIT, I am an Adjunct Research Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University, the Director of Education and Training at the Global Biological Standards Institute, and senior editorial advisor of Bio-protocol. I am deeply committed to improving research quality through best practices in research design, data collection, analysis, and sharing, and reporting.
