Teaching Staff in Biotechnology, Universitas Katolik Indonesia Atma Jaya

Watumesa Agustina Tan completed her Ph.D. training in Microbiology at the University of California Davis under the support of the Fulbright Indonesian Presidential Program. As an alumni of the Faculty of Biotechnology, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, she has been dedicating her passion to educate in the institution since 2007. She is interested in studying the bacterial degradation of aromatic compounds and how such remarkable metabolic capabilities may have evolved. She co-authored book chapters on the application of aromatic hydrocarbon dioxygenases and the roles Acidovorax spp. and other members of Betaproteobacteria in bioremediation.

In continuity to her experience as a Professor for the Future and a Teaching Assistant Consultant fellow at the University of California Davis, she implements student-centered learning practices that accommodate various learning styles in her teaching. She also initiated a science communication program on campus to create a bridge among the scientific community and the public.
