Bill Thompson is Director of the Music Lab at Bond University, and a Professor in the Faculty of Society and Design. He is also Emeritus Professor (Distinguished) at Macquarie University.
He is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (USA) and formerly elected President of the Society for Music Perception and Cognition (Jan 2007-Jan 2009), the Asia-Pacific Society for the Cognition of Music (2015-2016), and the Australian Music Psychology Society (2015 to 2017). He has been an Associate Editor of the journals Empirical Musicology Review, Music Perception, and Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology.
Among his scholarly contributions, he is author of the book Music, Thought and Feeling: Understanding the Psychology of Music, 2nd edition (2014), Oxford University Press, ISBN: 9781452283036); Editor of Music in the Social and Behavioral Sciences: An Encyclopedia. Sage Publications Inc., New York. His publications focus on emotional, cognitive, and cross cultural aspects of music experience.
